Choosing a Home Security Alarm System

What makes up a home security system?

A home alarm security system is a whole system composed of many devices that would make up a complete protection scheme for your home. There are devices that you can do without, but there are also devices that are essential in the whole performance of your home security alarm system.

A complete home alarm security system is composed of the following:

  • A control panel. This is the main control for your whole security system. This is where all your sensors, alarms, cameras, remote, keypads and telephone line connect to form an efficient protection system. This could either be wireless, which is battery operated, or hard-wired with physical connections.
  • Sensors. There are a lot of sensors or detectors available in the market today. There are motion sensors (detects movements), heat sensors (detects body heat), and smoke detectors among others. Then, there are the more sophisticated acoustic sensors and glass break sensors.  You can install different sensors to your security system depending on what you want. What is important is that they are placed in strategic areas in and out of your home for better security coverage.
  • Security Camera. Security or surveillance cameras are better than sensors since you can really see the actual intruder to your home. However, these are more visible therefore burglars may know how to avoid them. Just a tip, install a dummy security camera so you can fool possible burglar and install the real one in a much unexpected area in your home.
  • Video Monitors. If you have installed security cameras, then you can look at them through video monitors. Some consoles have more than one video monitors, but for a home use, usually, there is just one monitor and you just flip through the other cameras via keypad or remote control. Also, the images shown in the monitors can be recorded, allowing you to scan through it whenever you have the time.
  • Home Monitoring Service. Since your control panel is directly connected to the telephone, the monitoring service will automatically dial-up a stored number, preferably the police’s or fire departments whenever a sensor or an alarm is triggered. By having this, you are sure that nothings going to happen to home while you are away.
  • Door Locks. These are the type that will automatically lock when a sensor or an alarm is triggered. Even if you left a door open, you can still sleep safely and not worry if someone might enter your property.

These devices are sure to provide you the best protection whether you are in or out of your home. A complete home security alarm system will be costly, but it costs nothing compared to the life it will secure.
